On-Site Composter

The on-site composter at Eastgate is designed to process all of the organic waste which is generated at Eastgate shopping centre. The unit is capable of processing up to 40 tons of organic waste per month. All of the organic food waste from the centre, with the exception of large bones, can be processed through the unit. This process has many benefits on the environment, one being that less methane is emitted into the atmosphere – for every 4 tons processed, 1 ton of methane emission is eliminated. Waste, instead of being dumped, is put to good use, using a natural process

The benefits of the composter are:

• Less waste to landfill – saving of limited landfill space
• Less transport cost to remove the waste from site and therefore less CO2 emissions
• Less methane into the atmosphere – for every 4 tons processed, 1 ton of methane emission is eliminated
• No extra cost compared to normal waste upliftment charges
